Just off the top of my head; There are over 40 known races in the UK and Ireland [link]. Most are relatively small events with competitors from the local area only, but some attract teams from all over the country. All the races are different; from relatively low speed fun events up to serious high speed racing. Some events are relatively small and have only a few hundred spectators, but others such as Belchford or Hoar Cross attract several thousand. There is no governing body and there are no standard rules. Most of the events just make their own rules up to suit what they are trying to achieve.I'd estimate the must be around 600 carties in the country, and possibly many more. There are about 20 teams that travel to events outside their local area. There is a Championship series in Scotland organised by the Scottish Cartie Association. The current champions are "Team Rooket" (http://teamrooket.webs.com/)Top speed recorded in the UK was at Cairngorm Soapbox Extreme last year, with C12 clocked at 70mph through a radar speed trap [link]. Some teams reported higher speeds elsewhere on the course.

(right click and select "Save target as...")

 Current version: 1.1.0.7

 Release Date: 21 Oct 2011

 System Requirements

SCA CartieSim has been developed by the Scottish Cartie Association as a tool for carte racers and race organisers. It allows cartie courses to be analysed to predict likely speeds and course times. In addition, it can highlight sections of the track where high speeds and tight cornering may cause difficulties and can be used to model the effect of chicanes on speeds.

Data can be loaded from Google Maps, GPS / SatNav data files and files created by Trackmaster, and the characteristics of individual carties entered to predict the effect of changes to weight, aerodynamics, etc.
